Sugar Cane Rabbits

For more than one hundred years, kids and adults alike have been hunting rabbits in the sugar cane fields south of Lake Okeechobee in Florida. As farmers burn the green foliage off the cane to prepare for harvest, locals converge upon the fields for a "rundown" - meeting the rabbits as they flee the flames. Some use sticks, some guns, some dogs, and some even their bare hands. PETA isn't too happy about this practice, but the Fish and Wildlife Commission recognize it as a local custom and turn a blind eye for the most part. Photographer Colby Katz captured a hunt on film:

Founded nearly 18 years ago in Austin, TX, Uncommon Objects is the brainchild of found objects artist and uber-collector Steve Wiman. Featuring a diverse and quirky collection of antiques and oddities from more than 20 dealers, Uncommon Objects houses everything from Victorian jewelry to early 1900's Americana to mid-century furniture and nearly everything in-between. Due to our massive inventory (I say our b/c I'm a dealer at Uncommon), we've never tried to sell online and will probably never have an online storefront, but we're gonna try to post new and noteworthy items on a weekly basis (along with their prices) and see how it works. Henry Gunderson

Henry Gunderson is 18, just finished his first year at The San Francisco Art Institute, has his first solo show at Fecal Face Dot Gallery on July 23rd, uses animals consistently in his works but claims "they're not really animals and they're not paintings or drawings but light machines" instead. Whatever dude. They're awesome whatever they are. Thanks to Lauren from Bows + Arrows for turning me onto him.
