Cee-lo

I've been on the road the past couple of days for the montly flea market in Canton, TX. I usually stay with the Webbs in Waxahachie when I'm over that way, and this is usually the look of the kitchen table towards the end of the night:

Refueled No. 3

The new issue of Refueled is out. Props to Chris Brown for busting his ass on this thing and to Cheryl Shulke for helping him along the way. Nice work folks. There's a great feature on the new Hotel Saint Cecelia in Austin, beautiful photos by Cari Wayman, a surf journal from Nathan Webster, and much much more - including my interview with Bruce and Julie Webb (starting on page 8) and my review of Bill Callahan's new album (page 96). Check out the complete issue by clicking on the first image below:

Memorial Day Weekend at The Green Ranch

I hope everyone had a good Memorial Day weekend. I spent mine with good friends outside of Albany, Texas on the historic Green Ranch - settled in the late 1800's by Thomas Henry Green and still run today by his son Bob. Words can't describe the beauty of the land that the ranch rests upon, and pictures have a hard time doing it justice either. I thinks that's partly why my eye leads me more to the detailed, close-up images (my new macro lens is to blame too) than to the larger spread of the landscape. It has to be seen in person to be truly appreciated. A few shots from the long weekend:

The Great Midwest

Iowan Danny Wilcox Frazier has spent years documenting the rural communities of his home state.

Bows + Arrows Backdrop

Along with selling antiques and doing some writing/photography for Refueled Magazine, I've been doing window backdrops for Austin clothing boutique Bows + Arrows - owned by Lauren Thumlert. I didn't take pictures of my first two pieces but snapped a few of the current window a couple of days ago. I got hooked on the idea of doing a bunch of simple black and white line drawings, and this is what came out. It ended up being a couple hundred drawings. Double-sided. I hadn't drawn shit since grade school so please forgive their elementary nature. That was partly the point though.

Filling Up

Over the past several months, Chris Brown has worked tirelessly to put together Issue No. 3 of Refueled Magazine. He announced today that it will hit the streets (or the internet airwaves for now) on Monday. For the new issue, I did an interview with my dear friends Bruce and Julie Webb for the "Collector" section and did a music review on Bill Callahan's latest release, Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle, as well. For those of you who have started following Detour since the last issue of Refueled came out, below you will find the interview the magazine did with me about my collecting habits and an article I wrote about one of my favorite bands around - Richmond Fontaine. I'll post the new pieces on Monday.
