Sugar Cane Rabbits
For more than one hundred years, kids and adults alike have been hunting rabbits in the sugar cane fields south of Lake Okeechobee in Florida. As farmers burn the green foliage off the cane to prepare for harvest, locals converge upon the fields for a "rundown" - meeting the rabbits as they flee the flames. Some use sticks, some guns, some dogs, and some even their bare hands. PETA isn't too happy about this practice, but the Fish and Wildlife Commission recognize it as a local custom and turn a blind eye for the most part. Photographer Colby Katz captured a hunt on film:

This creates a strange juxtaposition in my head. On the one had the serious images of these children sporting their rabbit trophies like great hunters on the other, well, their hunting wabbits, hunting wabbits...
