I saw Son Volt for the umpteenth time last night and they were better than ever. Jay Farrar is a criminally overlooked songwriter. Check em out on this tour if at all possible. From "Highways and Cigarettes":
Highways and dreams forever together In the minds of the free and the innocent Always a future in the travelers hands Startin' fires on the river of madness
Still out there with the coffee stains and puttin' miles on shoes Can't escape the smell of cigarettes, still livin' out these American late-night blues
I actually wrote a little ramble to accompany this graphic, but my words might not suit all your eyes and ears, so I'm gonna save them for another time and place:
Monsieur Lapin says that "with a fluid and vibrating line, I draw my everyday life. The base of my compositions is a collection of faces, objects, sensations, and moments" - most of which are drawn into his trusty pocket notebooks. This guy's good.
From Stein's website: "My photographs serve as modern dioramas of our new natural history. Within these scenes I explore our paradoxical relationship with the "wild" and how our conflicting impulses continue to evolve and alter the behavior of both humans and animals. We at once seek connection with the mystery and freedom of the natural world, yet we continually strive to tame the wild around us and compulsively control the wild within our own nature."
It's been a while since I've come across a good-looking table design. This one from product designer Philippe Nigro is composed of two trestles that utilize adjustable vice-like grips to clamp down around a tabletop. You find the top, the trestles make a table for you.
